Residence permits, renewals and appointment letters: the préfecture is where many newcomers need their French most. These phrases help you hand in a file, understand the staff and ask the right questions.
At the desk
- J'ai rendez-vous à dix heures pour un titre de séjour.I have a ten o'clock appointment for a residence permit.
- Voici ma convocation.Here is my appointment letter.
- Je viens déposer mon dossier.I've come to submit my application.
- Je viens retirer mon titre de séjour.I've come to collect my residence permit.
- Il me manque un document. Est-ce que je peux l'envoyer par mail ?I'm missing a document. Can I send it by email?
- Qu'est-ce que je dois apporter exactement ?What exactly do I need to bring?

- Many applications now start online on the ANEF website before any appointment.
- Bring the originals and a photocopy of every document.
- Keep your récépissé with your passport: it proves your right to stay while the new card is made.
